Music Video Monday - 2/23/15

Before we begin Music Video Monday, we’d like to welcome Maryam Fikri and Darren Kataja to the Earhole staff! We’re looking forward to their future contributions. Now to the good stuff:

PORTER: “Virtual Insanity” by Jamiroquai

Further proof that music in the UK is just better than anywhere else. Jamiroquai is this little white dude, rocking a hat that Pharrell wouldn’t try on, dancing around in a room filled with moving furniture. The crow and bleeding floors imagery makes no sense, but this was made in the 90’s when rat tails and rollerskating were cool so who cares. This may not be the best example of Jamiroquai’s music being danced to, but it’s still dope.

DARREN: “Classic” by The Knocks feat. Powers

“Classic” is a song about summer love, but it’s been my winter jam. The video is an homage to a game most of us 90’s kids spent an obscene amount of time playing - The Sims. As Powers cheerily describes all the good stuff about new relationships, the actresses in the video do their best interpretation of the pseudo-real-life movements of computerized Sims characters. The high-angle shot of the swimmer is the real highlight from an artistic standpoint, but the slo-mo ugly faces might be my favorite part.

ETHAN: “E Talking” by Soulwax

This video is how I’m going to teach my future kids their ABC's.

TRESKE: “My Machines” by Battles

Hashtag mondays.

P.S. That is Gary Numan of “Cars” fame. So yeah, we gettin’ freaky.

MARYAM: "Int'l Players Anthem" - UGK ft. Outkast

Ahhh yes. When a pimp falls in love and closes the knot. Check out this video debuted in 2007 of "Int'l Players Anthem (I Choose You)" by UGK feat. Outkast of this funkadelic wedding with some guest stars making an appearance. (Kevin Hart riding dirty in the front seat and TPain as the priest). "Keep your heart, Three Stacks, keep your heart!"
